Pinotage Restaurant awarded 4 star status
Centurion – The Pinotage Restaurant and Wine Cellar in Centurion, Gauteng, is proud to announce the 4-star grading awarded to the restaurant by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa.
The restaurant grading system has been implemented as part of a nation-wide effort to improve the standards of restaurants in South Africa, and to give consumers a selection of restaurants that adhere to industry standards in terms of quality. Grading is based on criteria including food and beverage, menu and wine lists, and service. For further information on the grading system visit www.tourismgrading.co.za.
Owned by Allan Clingham and Hennie Carstens, The Pinotage Restaurant and Wine Cellar in Gauteng was inspired by the owners’ passion for the quintessentially South African Pinotage varietal and the philosophy of ‘Friends in Good Food and Wine’. Their aim is to offer patrons a lifestyle experience with true local flavour. Monthly Pinotage festivals and gourmet dining evenings showcase a particular Pinotage estate, accompanied by gourmet cuisine prepared by head chef Les Murray.
The cuisine is created to complement the berry, vanilla and chocolate tones of Pinotage wine, which can be chosen from the state-of-the-art walk-in cellar. Some of the country’s finest Pinotage wines can be found in this cellar, as well as The Pinotage’s own Cecile and Bianca pressed on the premises at the annual ‘wine-stomping’ day, a popular corporate event. The restaurant has recently built on a winery to store the wine pressed from this event in a quest to enter the prestigious ABSA Top 10 Pinotage Competition, which requires a winery to produce a minimum of 2000 bottles to enter. The Pinotage is the only restaurant in Gauteng to have an official wine makers status.
The flagship restaurant is located mid-way between Johannesburg and Pretoria, and another branch will shortly open at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The Pinotage Restaurant and Wine Cellar is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and is also ideal for corporate functions, special occasions and groups.

This restaurant served the worst food we have ever eaten on Sunday 16 November 2008. Also no choice for vegetarian/fish eaters. For a buffet lunch it was appalling. The only redeeming feature was the waitress who was good. The empty restaurant spoke volumes.
