Mossel Bay tourism appoints new chairman
Mossel Bay – The board of Mossel Bay Tourism has announced that it has elected Louis Cook as its chairman for 2007. Mr Cook, who took early retirement in 1993 as the South African Army’s director of the School of Cadets, has lived in Mossel Bay since 1998.
He and his wife, Joy, run Whale-Phin Guest House in Rheebok, and he is the chairman of the Mossel Bay’s Guest House Guild. He is also the representative for the Garden Route and Klein Karoo on the National Accommodation Association of South Africa (NA-ASA).
“My vision for this year is to see that the marketing of Mossel Bay is kept up to standard,” he said. “We need to build on the work that we fast-tracked in the last four months of 2006; we need to continue to update and improve our new web site – www.visitmosselbay.co.za – and to ensure that our new image and information brochures and our media- and tour operators’ CDs are effectively distributed. We will also continue working to create as much favourable media attention as possible for the town.
“Secondly, I will concentrate on improving communications between the Tourism Bureau and our members and between the Bureau and the community of Mossel Bay so that everybody benefits.
“Everyone agrees that this last summer season was a bumper one for Mossel Bay, and I’m looking forward to making 2007 a bumper year altogether.”
Mr Cook takes over from Louis Harris, who successfully steered the association through a difficult re-building process over the past year. Mr Harris remains a member of the board, which includes elected members Hannes Nel, Neels Zietsman and Andre Straus.
