Will Obama's visit improve the Cuban tourism sector?

Hospitality
US President Barack Obama arrived in Cuba on Sunday, becoming the first American head of state to visit the country in the past 90 years

This visit - the result of an astounding change policy change that started 15 months ago - is intended to strengthen relations between the two old enemies and to and conclude discussions concerning the Cold War.

Obama was accompanied by a large delegation of members of Congress from both parties that support the policy of lifting the embargo against Cuba, as the embargo is still looming as an obstacle to the rapprochement desired by the President. A really important fact is that the presidential delegation included also dozens of American businessmen in search of opportunities on this island.

The president's visit was not without special influence over the evolution of hospitality, as Quality in the hospitality industry is the priority nowadays for the Cuban capital, Havana. Starwood Hotels & Resorts are the first players in the American hospitality field to enter the Havana market in nearly 60 year.

Havana is the capital city of contrasts, with incredible views, impressive architecture and of course with people with fascinating stories and effervescent dances and aromas. All these things attract American and global investors. Starwood Hotels & Resorts chose to make the famous hotels Santa Isabel, Hotel Inglaterra and Hotel Quinta Avenida part of its Luxury Collection. Both hotels will undergo a renovation, but without losing their charm and personality.

This first investment is just the beginning, as a number of new investors, owners of famous brands are expected in Cuba.
