Traveling to London – is it safe?

After terror attack at Parliament yesterday, officials offer basic guideline advice for tourists and citizens to follow while in the capital.

As a car hit a dozen people, leaving two dead and many injured on Westminster Bridge near the Palace of Westminster, the British Parliament was immediately locked down. Soon after the car incident, the attacker tried to enter the Parliament building and was shot dead, unfortunately only after he fatally wounded a police officer trying to stop him. Social media platforms immediately reacted as people are concerned about their safety when traveling to London. Special measures were already taken by the Metropolitan Police. "Following the events in Westminster today there will be extra police officers - both armed and unarmed - out on our streets," the officials declared.

Moreover, the institution recommended people to avoid the areas from the capital center while the terror threat level in the country will remain "severe”. Special patrol forces were commissioned into key areas of the city: buses, underground, railway and overground.

The Metropolitan Police also requested for the citizens to remain vigilant and to offer their full collaboration to the officers: "We need the help and support of individuals, businesses and communities across London to remain alert and maintain the safety and security of those places in which we live, work and socialize. Crowded places, events, public transport, and iconic locations are some examples of locations that could be potential targets for terrorists. All of these are to be found in London. You are familiar with your workplace and surrounding area, so you’re ideally placed to spot when something is amiss.”

If noticing anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, both locals and tourists are asked to immediately report the situation to the police.
