Travel advice after shocking terrorist attacks in Paris

Destinations

As a state of emergency has been declared, traveling to or from France translates into additional security measures and probable disruptions for flights

The Department of Foreign Affairs is currently advising all citizens to "exercise extreme caution" when traveling in France after deadly recent Paris terrorist attacks.

"Citizens in Paris should exercise caution and follow the instructions of the local authorities, who are advising people to keep to a minimum their travel around the city," DFA stated for travelers.

French airports and borders remain open, airlines such as Aer Lingus, Ryanair and Air France remain fully operational between Paris Charles de Gaulle, Paris Beauvais airports and other destinations, with expected delays due to "strengthening control" measures.

Each airline website or aeroportsdeparis.fr are continuously updating flight details for passengers to check before travel.

As refunding for cancellations is not possible without the DFA declaring travel to be unsafe, cancellation fees may also be applied. In this case, tour operators are not obliged by law to provide refunds or alternatives for their customers.

As an exception, Aer Lingus offers its customers traveling to Paris until November 22th the possibility to rebook or apply for a full refund.

Also, Ryanair passengers can change travel dates for free. Transfers onto another flight are possible only within the next two months, except the winter holidays period.

Air France offered customers the option of free-of-charge postponing flights or exchanging the flight ticket for a non-refundable one year valid voucher.

Meanwhile, in Paris, public transportation operates as normal, including the Parisian subway, Disneyland remains closed until Wednesday, November 18 and the Louvre re-opens for visitors on Monday.

Eurostar trains are also operating as normal, with extra-security checks and there are no reported ferry delays at this time.

Tourists have been provided a dedicated emergency telephone number: +33 1 45 50 34 60.
