Neuschwanstein Castle and Cologne Cathedral followed Europa-Park in the online survey carried by the tourist board over the last two years.

The goal of the poll, which is now running for four years, is to identify the country's top 100 tourist attractions.
"Travellers from over 40 countries took part in the survey, and the results showed how well our voting system works: eight of the ten most popular attractions from the previous year held their top-ten ranking in 2015," explained Petra Hedorfer, chief executive of the GNTB.

Europa-Park and Neuschwanstein Castle switched spots from last year at the top of the rankings, while Cologne Cathedral retained its third spot.

They were followed by Heidelberg Castle and old quarter, Brandenburg Gate, the old town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Lake Constance with Mainau Island and the Monastic Island of Reichenau (another UNESCO World Heritage site), and the Berlin Wall.

New entries in the top ten were Mount Zugspitze and the Partnach Gorge in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the Romantic Road.
Travellers to Germany cast their votes for famous monuments, natural landscapes, theme parks, historical townssports venues and also for traditional events and festivals.

The top 100 attractions are being highlighted on the GNTB websites.
