According to the company’s 2016 data, people were most interested in visiting Reykjavik, Havana, Toronto, Mexico City and Tokyo

Places like London, Rome and Paris are no longer among the first choices of worldwide tourists, as Google searches from 2016 confirm.

According to recently released data, the top 5 of the destinations searched on Google is:

Reykjavik - As Iceland is the ideal destination for adventure travel and Northern Lights spotting, trips to Reykjavik were preferred by women in their 20s and 30s.

Havana - With the renewed diplomatic relationships between USA and Cuba this year and the first Florida-Havana commercial flight launched in August, people began to show their interest in the Caribbean island nation. According to Google report, men in their 30s and 40s were the ones searching for this destination.

Toronto – Easy to access from eastern USA, Toronto was preferred by hockey fans and Americans living in Michigan. Canada's biggest city, Toronto is the capital of the province of Ontario located along Lake Ontario’s northwestern shore. Famous for its skyscrapers as well as for its wide green spaces, Toronto offers vibrant tourist attractions, appealing for the most selective of travelers.

Mexico City - Mexico's capital is currently drawing enthusiastic travelers because of its powerful history, unique architecture and delicious cuisine. One of the largest cities in the world, Mexico City abounds in museums, archaeological sites and historical buildings. Food diversity can also be overwhelming. If willing to discover the true spirit of a Mexican fiesta, than this is the perfect place for you!

Tokyo – Since the country has just raised its tourism goals for the next 4 years, the tech-friendly Tokyo will probably not be the only destination in Japan that will appeal to travelers. For now, Google's data indicated that people searching for this destination are predominantly men, aged between 24-35.

If you still can’t decide which new places to visit on your next holiday, Google Destinations can help you choose between amazing adventurous places, as well as the ideal peaceful destinations for the entire family.
