The hotel was built in 705 by one of the King Tenji’s most beloved counselor and is now a luxury destination for those searching for treatment and relaxation in a natural setting. The thermal waters in the area have attracted over the years visitors, artists, soldiers, samurais. In addition to aforementioned real-life samurais, other famous guests include Tokugawa Ieyasu, Japan’s first shogun, and Kouken, the 46th emperor. Since its establishment until today, the hotel management was in the hands of the founding family. No less than 52 generations have led the hotel before.


Nishiyama Onsen resort is situated in the mountains Keiunkan Hayakama, near Kyoto and features traditional architecture, dominated by wood and stone.

Not only recorded as the oldest hotel in the world, Nishiyama Onsen is about to acquire the title of the source of thermal water with the highest rate in the world, a source that produces over 1,000 gallons per minute.
