The British citizens have chosen: UK will leave the EU

Announcements
British citizens were asked to decide on Thursday if Britain should remain an EU member or not

46 million British citizens living in the country and in the Member States of the Commonwealth of Nations which includes independent states former British colonies were expected to come and vote on the referendum day.

Reuters and AFP wrote that a survey by Ipsos MORI published Thursday, the same day as the referendum, but conducted before the election, revealed the team favorable to the remaining of the Great Britain in the European Union was credited with 52% of votes.
The EU members were also strong supporters of the UK remaining a part of the union. German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed on Wednesday on the eve of a historic British referendum on membership of the EU that she hoped voters would opt to remain in the bloc. "Of course I want Britain to stay in the EU but the decision is with British citizens," she told reporters after talks with Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo. On Thursday she added that EU should respond in a 'calm' manner no matter the Brexit results.
Still, the winning team is the “Leave” team. Even if the results are not definitive, it is hard to believe that the difference of more than one million votes may be recovered by the “Stay” movement in the EU.
Nigel Farage declared victory in the European Union referendum and said a vote to Leave team had been won "without a single bullet being fired". The Ukip leader said that June 23 will "go down in our history as our independence day" and that he hoped the win would bring down the entire "failed project" that is the EU.
As a result, the value of the pound reached its weakest level against the dollar in 31 years. Market expectations that the UK is on the verge of voting to leave the European Union this morning sent sterling down to $1.35, depths it has not been plunged since 1985. Analysts, including the Bank of England, have warned that the pound could fall up to 20 per cent in the wake of a Brexit vote.
