Swiss Entrepreneur Unveils Design for Tallest Hotel on Earth

Announcements

Remo Stoffel, a Swiss entrepreneur, has revealed design plans for what should become the tallest hotel in the world.

The building, expected to reach 381 metres in height, will be situated in Vals in the Swiss Alps and will be completed in 2019.

The current record is held by the JW Marriott Marquis hotel in Dubai, which stands 355 metres tall.

Stoffel, who is the CEO of the Dubai-based Farnek, a leading facility management company from the Middle East, the vision for the hotel came from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid.

"Due to my position in Farnek, I regularly travel to Dubai and I am always surprised to see how quickly the city has grown and what it has achieved.

"Dubai now has the world's busiest airport, tallest hotel, tallest tower, largest man-made island, the largest shopping mall and the list goes on.

"In the early stages of its development, local and international observers were questioning Sheikh Mohammed's vision for Dubai.

"Even if the infrastructure was completed, Dubai also had to fill the thousands of newly built hotel rooms.

"Dubai stuck to its strategy and in 2014 welcomed almost 12 million overnight visitors and is now expecting that number to rise to 20 million by 2020.

"That fueled my inspiration to fulfill my own vision, by creating 7132 Ltd, commissioning this stunning design that will be built within four years in my home town of Vals," said Stoffel.

US-based architect Morphosis created the hotel's design after an international competition.
