Avianca Brasil currently registers the fastest growth of any airline in Brazil. From 2010 to 2014, its market share climber from 2.6% to 8.4%. Until May of this year, the carrier continued this trend, announcing a market share of 9%.

Further growth is expected as Avianca Brasil and the other Star Alliance carriers operating in Brazil will now offer more convenient connections through the main Brazilian hubs in São Paulo Guarulhos, Rio de Janeiro Galeão and Brasilia.

Jose Efromovich, President and CEO of Avianca Brasil, declared on the occasion: "Today marks the future pace of our airline and ends a two year process which saw us move to a new IT platform, review and modernise our internal processes and specific training programme for our employees to certify they can offer the best possible service to our customers. We are thrilled to be part of the most experienced airline alliance and are content to put Brazil back on the Star Alliance map."

In total, 13 Star Alliance members (Air Canada, Air China, Avianca, Avianca Brasil, Copa Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, SWISS, TAP, Turkish Airlines and United) now serve Brazil, which establishes the alliance's leading position in this market.

Avianca Brasil brings 15 new Brazil destinations to the table, adding to the existing 12 already served by the Star Alliance members, bringing the total to 27.
