Stansted Airport Receives Two Million Guests In June  

Stansted Airport registered more than two million passengers through its terminal in June 2015 – an 11 per cent year over year increase, or 200,000 more passengers. It was Stansted's busiest June in seven years.

For the year, the total number of travellers departing from Stansted grew to 21.5 million, a year over year increase of 16.5 per cent – the highest annual rate of growth of any major UK airport.

"Passenger numbers at Stansted continue to grow at a fast pace as we get closer to the busy summer travel period," said Andrew Harrison, Stansted managing director.

"June was our 13th consecutive month of double digit passenger growth and this positive trend continues to be determined by the expanded route network we have created with our airline partners.

"Later this month, we will see the welcome return of long-haul services to Stansted as Thomas Cook starts flights to the USA and Mexico.

"These services to Orlando, Las Vegas and Cancun will be a wonderful addition to our network of destinations and the first of what will be an expanding long-haul offer from Stansted in the following years – offering people in our catchment greater choice and value.

Harrison said that the Airports Commission acknowledged Stansted's strategic importance and its vigorous contribution to the UK market.

Towards the end of the year, the airport will finish an £80 million overhauling project of its terminal while delivering an £8 million upgrade to attract new airlines.

The managing director of Stansted added: "This all adds up to a very bright future for Stansted and will allow us to offer passengers in London and the East of England the best facilities and choice of destinations."
