The missing Malaysia Airlines MH370 flight will be suspended if the airplane will not be found in the southern Indian Ocean area

“In the absence of new credible evidence, Malaysia, Australia and China have collectively agreed to suspend the search upon completion of the 120,000-km search,” Liow Tiong Lai, the transport minister in Malaysia declared.

As the plane with 239 people on board has disappeared in March 2014, officials from China, Malaysia and Australia have recently stated that the search will be suspended if the currently investigated area doesn't reveal new information on the accident.

According to the official statement, “the likelihood of finding the aircraft is fading”, as after the assessment of the remaining 10.000 square kilometres of search area, the search operation will definitely come to an end.

Despite the wishes of the victim's families and despite the MH370 flight is the only missing Boeing 777 on a global level, the search will be officially interrupted due to huge costs involved. It is estimated that so far, officials have spent over £100 million covering the search. Moreover, apart from a few pieces of debris appearing on the Eastern Africa coast, nothing else from the aircraft was found in the last two years and a half.
