Travel Industry’s First Online Safari Planning Tool Created by Natural Habitat Adventures
A century ago, when Teddy Roosevelt went on safari in Africa, it was a logistical nightmare with 250 porters and guides. Today’s safari-goer doesn’t have to worry about quite so many details, but because Sub-Saharan Africa is so vast - with so many choices of camps, routes, and destinations - planning a safari can seem daunting.
This once-formidable task has been broken down into a series of easy choices in a new online, interactive planning tool created by Natural Habitat Adventures (NHA), a company that has operated luxury safaris throughout Africa for almost 30 years.
NHA’s African Safari Planner, available free at www.africasafariplanner.com, has collected the equivalent of a library of material, including information and expert reviews on some 300 camps; thousands of photos of lodging and wildlife; dozens of safari routes in nine African countries; historic weather data for all safari regions; and information on when and where to catch a glimpse of Africa’s famous “Big Five” animals.
The Africa Safari Planner walks the user through the step-by-step process of planning their own custom safari. After choosing their desired country, a variety of itineraries are presented to the user along with maps, trip details, and price ranges. Once a safari route is chosen, the user then has the ability to choose specific properties at each destination along their itinerary from three different categories of camps, based on style, comfort, and facilities. The result is a custom-built safari catered to the unique interests of the individual traveler.
In addition to its planning functions, the NHA Africa Safari Planner automatically creates a digital “Personal Safari Journal,” complete with photos and trip highlights that can be shared with friends and family via email or Facebook.
“We’ve learned that our travelers are interested in taking a more active role in their safari planning,” said Ben Bressler, founder and director of Natural Habitat Adventures. “For the first time in our industry, user-friendly participation is possible with our Africa Safari Planner.”
