New Rail Timetable Enhances Inverclyde-Glasgow Connections

Car Rental & Rail

Following a public consultation, ScotRail announces a new timetable for the Inverclyde lines to Glasgow, promising more frequent and faster services starting 2 June.

ScotRail has unveiled a new timetable for passengers travelling between Wemyss Bay, Gourock, and Glasgow, set to take effect from 2 June, after a comprehensive public consultation process that garnered over 800 responses. This revamp aims to significantly improve the rail service by introducing a half-hourly service to Wemyss Bay and faster journeys to Gourock, responding to the community's feedback and enhancing connectivity with Glasgow.

The consultation's feedback indicated a broad support for the proposed changes, with the primary concern being the extended journey times for passengers along the Wemyss Bay line. ScotRail's updated timetable addresses these concerns by incorporating 30 additional services on weekdays, thereby facilitating better access to employment, education, health, and leisure opportunities for the Inverclyde region and beyond.

Key Timetable Enhancements:

  • Glasgow to Gourock: Twice hourly services extending past the evening peak, with a journey time of approximately 41 minutes. Additional peak services and a continuous two trains per hour frequency in the evenings are also part of the plan.

  • Glasgow to Wemyss Bay: A consistent two trains per hour service throughout the day until 19:00, shifting to an hourly service in the evening. The initiative aims to maintain an efficient end-to-end journey time of around 59 minutes.

Responding to specific community input, ScotRail has made further adjustments, such as adding stops to early morning Gourock to Glasgow services and retiming the busiest morning peak service from Wemyss Bay for a more streamlined journey.

ScotRail has committed to ongoing timetable reviews to explore additional ways to reduce travel times during peak periods while preserving the frequency and appeal of rail transport as a sustainable option.

Scott Prentice, ScotRail's Strategic Planning Director, emphasized the importance of community involvement in shaping the future of rail services in Inverclyde. He expressed gratitude for the public's active participation in the consultation process and highlighted ScotRail's dedication to enhancing rail travel in the region.

This timetable overhaul reflects ScotRail's commitment to improving service quality and accessibility, supporting economic growth, and promoting rail as a convenient and eco-friendly mode of transportation in Scotland. Full details and draft timetables are available on ScotRail's website, inviting passengers to familiarize themselves with the upcoming changes and plan their journeys accordingly.
