Marriott Expands Moxy Brand to Europe

Hospitality

By Steve Sims |

Marriott International has announced its plans to open 2,700 Moxy hotel rooms in key European cities by the end of 2016. The company expects to sign at least 4,200 rooms in 2015 alone, the goal being to sign 25,000 rooms and 150 Moxy hotels by 2020.

The news comes after the fruitful debut of Moxy Milan Malpensa in September 2014 and the announcement that the brand is coming to the U.S market. Eight properties were identified and planned for major metropolitan locations, including Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, New Orleans and three in New York City (Chelsea, Mid-town and Lower Manhattan.

Amy McPherson, president and managing director of Marriott International, Europe: "Unveiling Moxy Milan, which received widespread approval, was a significant step for the brand because it marked the launch of the first hotel in a gateway city. Its continuous expansion in the U.S will appeal to even more markets and help establish Moxy as a truly international brand."

Defined more by attitude than affordability, Moxy Hotels rethinks the traditional economy hotel experience, allowing customers to work, relax, connect, play and enjoy whilst surrounded by contemporary style and bold design.

Across Marriott's entire portfolio of brands, it plans to reach one million rooms open or in development by the end of the year.
