Recent events in the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 saga pointed towards the need for an underwater search.

As the authorities are yet to receive ping signal from the black box, the search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 will also be conducted via submarine in order to scout the ocean floor.

"We haven't had a single detection in six days. It's time to go underwater" Houston said.

The search perimeter has been determined by a strong signal in the area corroborated with an oil trail detected by an Australian search ship.
“It’s a lead. This is what the business is all about, You find something and then basically investigate it.” said Huston

“We have an oil slick, and we’ll investigate. We have a position very close to where transmissions are coming from.”

The oil trail allowed for a certain amount to be collected, however, the expertise is bound to take some time.

“We’re in the middle of the Indian ocean. We can’t do analysis out at sea,”

Authorities pointed out that an aerial search along with the careful scanning of the ocean bottom will bring the best results possible if that be the case.

The Bluefin submarine will be operational in 24 hour cycles, going to depths up to 4.5 km. The operation difficulty is set high as visibility at such depth is less than likely to occur.

“Let’s hope this very strong signal we were receiving is from the black box,” Houston said. “But we won’t know that until we lay eyes on the vehicle.”
