Lufthansa Cancels About 900 Flights on the German Airports

Airline News

The German airline Lufthansa announced on Tuesday that it had decided to cancel a total of 895 flights scheduled for Wednesday, because of the protest that would start on the same day by the Ver.di Union, one of the largest in Germany, Reuters informs

In a press release, Lufthansa reported that only 40% of the total of approximately 1,500 flights to and from airports in Germany will be operated, with two most affected airports in Frankfurt and Munich. The company declared that a total of 545 flights to or departing from the airport in Munich will be canceled, while on the airport of Frankfurt there will be canceled over 350 flights.

Lufthansa customers will be able to amend their bookings for free. The customers that had booked local routes are offered a free travel with the Deutsche Bahn trains, stressed the German airline.

The Ver.di Union, one of the largest in Germany, announced last week that Wednesday they will initiate warning strikes in several German airports, particularly those in Frankfurt and Munich, which will result in significant delays and flights cancellation. According to Ver.di, airports in Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Hanover, Cologne and Bonn will be affected by this strike.

Ver.di calls for a wage increase of 6% over, for the two million public sector employees whom they represent as the next round of negotiations with authorities are scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
