Louvre Museum remains closed for an indefinite time

Louvre Museum, Orsay Museum and the National Library of France are keeping their doors closed for an indefinite period given the increasing level of the Seine River, according to EFE and AFP

The objective is to provide shelter to works of art that had been located in flood-prone areas by moving them on the upper floors, as the Museum spokesman declared in a statement.

The museum collection located in the basement was composed of no less than 150,000 paintings, statues and other exhibits. Pinacothèque de Paris is the most visited in the world, with annual average of around nine million visitors.

The French capital and its surroundings were under alert since Friday, when it was expected that the maximum rate to reach the Seine River, according to the website publication Temps Reel. More, the information published on the website Vigicrues.gouv.fr revealed that the water level could reach up to six meters, exceeding the initial forecasts. Twelve French departments are still under orange alert for heavy rain and flood and Seine-et-Marne department is still under red alert.
On Thursday, President Francois Hollande announced that his country would declare a state of natural disaster because of the massive number of areas affected by floods, with 21,700 homes left without electricity.
