Korean Air resumes flights to Israel

Airline News

Local unrest has Korean Airforced Korean Air to cease flights to Israel

Korean Air will be resuming its flights to Israel, as the airline has suspended flights towards Tel Aviv since July 19th.

Flights between Incheon International Airport in Seoul and Tel Aviv will now become fully operational, as a decision issued by the carrier states.

Thus, as of September 13th, Korean Air will be operating a total of three weekly flights towards Israel, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The designated aircraft will be a B777-200 aircraft.

The July 19th decision of suspending the flight has been taken due to the local unrest in the Gaza Strip. Korean Air has viewed the Israeli deployment around the strip as a security concern.

Along with the cease-fire agreement recently signed by the two sides, the airspace is now considered safe, thus enabling the reopening of Korean-Israeli routes.

Interest towards Jerusalem and Israel in general has always been stirred due to the religious, cultural and social hub it represents. However, companies like Korean Air have to put safety first.

The Israeli – Palestine conflict often involves the use of rockets, making it the most unsafe environment for international, civilian flights.

Decisions as such, to avoid conflict areas, turn out to be crucial if you were to consider the Ukrainian tragedy involving flight MH 317 from Malaysia Airlines.
