Iceland's main airline announced Montreal will become its 5th gateway in Canada and 16th in North America. The carrier will offer four weekly flights to this new destination, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays – until November 2016.

Birkir Holm Gudnason, CEO of Icelandair, said: "We think Montreal fits well with Icelandair's route network and will strengthen our business. We can offer an affordable and refreshing way for tourists and business community between the Canadian destination and major European cities"

Icelandair already had established services to Toronto and Halifax, increasing their Canadian destinations in the last few years with the addition on Edmonton and Vancouver. The services to Montreal will connect with all 6 UK Icelandair serviced gateways; London Heathrow and Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

With its four million inhabitants, Montreal is the largest city in the province of Quebec and the second largest city in Canada. Thought of as more

European than other cities in North America, Montreal is the center of culture, arts and business for French-speaking Canadians. The city received its name from the Mt. Royal mountain which is located right in the middle of the city. The flight time between Iceland and Montreal lasts about 5 hours.
Icelandair has already informed travellers that, starting March 2016, it will introduce year-round services to Chicago and Aberdeen. This year, Icelandair has already started services to Birmingham, England and Portland, Oregon.
