Hague notifies the Hall of Justice against Pokemon Go

News

Municipality of city of Hague brought an action against Niantic American Company that develops the famous virtual game Pokemon Go after its requests to manage the large groups of players on a protected beach remained unanswered, reports EFE.

Since the month of August hundreds of players meet daily on the Kijkduin beach, on the outskirts, to search for Pokemon characters and games. The principle of the game is to catch, using a smartphone, these virtual creatures hidden in the real world that can be seen on the screen due to augmented reality technology.

Although players are bliss for merchants in the area, the district's inhabitants complain about the noise caused by hunters of Pokemon characters and by the garbage left behind them instead. They are worried also by the damage players cause to the dunes and other protected places.

The Hague authorities said they had been trying to contact Niantic since mid-August but without success. “We had no other choice” but to go to court, they said. “Kijkduin will remain an attractive place for Pokémon hunters, but there will be less trouble for the residents and the damage to protected areas will be limited,” the municipality said.

The municipality is demanding that there be no Pokemon on and around the Delta Square in Kijkduin between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. And that the nature reserve area be removed completely from the game. “In this way Kijkduin will remain attractive to Pokemon Go players, but the nuisance to local residents and damage to nature are prevented”, a spokesperson for VVD alderman Boudewijn Revis said to newspaper AD.

The game has also been banned in Iran, has seen hundreds fined for playing the game while driving in Taiwan and seen Pentagon staff told to play outside, not inside the US military command center.
