Demetrius Canton, director of lodging partner services for the Caribbean, Expedia group said: "As one of Expedia Group's top producing destinations in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico is a sought-after market with more than 250 hotel partners in the region."

"Even though we have the necessary technology and marketing tools to help our partners on a global level, we strongly believe that we are best prepared to assist our partners in these efforts when we are present in their local marketplace."

In the first quarter of 2015 there was a 15 per cent year-over-year increase. Puerto Rico's capital continues to be the top destination on the island, San Juan registering an increase of 25 per cent over the same period last year.

Brett Minzner, area manager for central Caribbean, Expedia group, explained: "With several team members now working from our local office in the Puerta del Condado building in San Juan, we have further improved our ability to effectively serve our partners and back the continued growth of this important destination."

Package demand continues to be an important driver for Puerto Rico and San Juan is the top destination in package demand also, reporting a 30 per cent year-over-year growth during the first three months of 2015.
