Etihad Airways has announced the increase in frequency for the Abu Dhabi – Chengdu to a daily service as of March 30, 2014.

Chengdu is renowned for its rapid economic increase, with almost half of the world’s Fortune 500 companies operating in the city.

As of December 15, 2011, Etihad has launched its Chengdu service, the first direct airline connection between the United Arabian Emirates and the Sichuan province in China. Taking to consideration that this region alone is home to more than 80 million people, it really comes as a breakthrough for Etihad.

Chengdu is the third Chinese city under daily Etihad routes with Beijing and Shanghai aleready benefiting from this service.

The Airway has reached this conclusion after the obvious increasing trend in passenger and cargo volumes since 2012. Passenger-wise, the increase has reached as high as 25% while cargo and mail has peaked at a 19%.

The route will be made with an Airbus 330-200 aircraft which benefits from 22 Pearl Business class and 240 Economy class seats.

“With consistent double-digit growth in passenger and cargo volumes, Chengdu represents a great opportunity.

“Operating a daily service will provide our guests with even more convenient service to Abu Dhabi as well as key markets in the GCC, Middle East, North Africa and Europe.

“In addition, our expanded service will further stimulate economic growth between China and the UAE.” - Etihad Airways president James Hoganetihad
