Cambodian tourism records growing figures

Tourism in Cambodia has registered a 2.6% increase in international visits in the first quarter of 2016
According to a recent report issued by Statistics and Tourist Information Department of the Ministry of Tourism in Cambodia, from January to March, the country has welcomed 1,342,477 international tourist visits.
This translates into a 2.6 per cent increase, when compared to the same period of 2015, when 1,307,836 foreign tourists have entered the country for leisure or business.

Moreover, the figures assessed the distribution of the visits, as follows: tourist arrivals to Phnom Penh accounted for 43.8% of all visits (219,944 people); visits to the Siem Reap province registered a market share of 41.4% (207,979 people); visits to the coastal areas of the country accounted for 13.4% of all entries with 67,289 people registered; ecotourism trips scored a 1.4% of the total visits (6,821 visitors).

To ease country access and also to attract more foreign visitors to Cambodia, Kong Sopheareak, director of Ministry of Tourism’s Statistics and Information Department of the country has announced the government aims to introduce a three-year multi-entry visa policy aimed to be applied for tourists from China, South Korea and Japan. The proposal is currently awaiting the local government's approval.
