Beautiful Beaches and Incredible Sunsets

Anna Maria Island Florida, a slender 7-mile slip of Gulf sand has always been known for its fantastic climate, sugar-white coastline, spectacular beaches, emerald Gulf waters and incredible sunsets. Time slows down here, the lifestyle harking back to simpler days.

Start your day by sipping coffee while enjoying the glorious sun rise over Tampa Bay. Then head down to one of the idyllic beaches that Anna Maria Island has to offer. Kick off your shoes and feel the warm, soft sand between your toes, the lapping surf being pulled languidly back to sea.

Rest assured, you will find no high rise buildings or theme parks on this island, just beautiful beaches and sightings of dolphins, manatees, turtles and birds, with folk gently fishing or enjoying some kayaking and sailing.

Anna Maria Island has 3 main residential areas, each served by wonderful beaches: Anna Maria City in the north, in the middle Holmes Beach City and further south Bradenton Beach City. The word city though should not deter you as none of these residential areas house more than 5,000 residents, representing more tranquil village life than that of a city. Each island location is comfortably within walking or cycling distance.

Which Anna Maria Island beach area to choose?

Anna Maria City to the North of the Island offers a quiet and tranquil beach which surrounds around the north tip of the island, the sand resembling a mix between soft sugar and flour. Although there are no public facilities, here you can afford spectacular views over Tampa Bay, the Skyway Bridge, and St Petersburg, all from the comfort of the locally celebrated Sandbar Restaurant if you prefer. As such this quiet area is popular with artists, whose work can be seen at the quaint art galleries dotted around.

Head to Holmes Beach City situated in the middle of Anna Maria Island where you will find Manatee Beach, A public beach which benefits from a lifeguard, beach cafe, playground, volleyball facilities, plus free parking and restrooms. Manatee Beach is popular and offers the perfect compromise for families seeking the beach and playground. Rest assured though there is plenty of beach acreage for those seeking undisturbed beach bliss!

Bradenton Beach based on the South of Anna Maria Island is blessed with miles of sugar sand beach. On the Gulf side you will find Cortez Beach to the North and Coquina Beach to the South. Coquina Beach is the predominant public beach and the largest on the island. Great for the kids, Coquina benefits from lifeguard supervision and ample parking close by, plus washroom and snack bar facilities. This beach is also blessed by the sometimes welcoming shade from acres of Australian pine trees, where racoons are also seen!

Coquina beach also benefits from a small beach on the bay side of Anna Maria Island, its calm waters proving popular for water sports including jet skis.

Anna Maria Sunsets

Get set for the evening by spreading a towel and positioning yourself comfortably whilst sipping a Martini. The imminent event? Possibly the most spectacular sunset in the world!

Watch the glide of the sun as it slowly disappears West over the Gulf, slipping behind the ocean water that looks as if it's dancing under the spangled light of a disco ball.

The Anna Maria sunset brings a real sense of occasion and romance for any couple visiting Anna Maria Island, a serious ritual you will hold throughout your vacation and remember probably forever.
