Air Canada Enhances In-Flight Entertainment with New Sports Channels for Stanley Cup Playoffs

Airlines & Airports

Air Canada introduces new Live TV sports channels, including Sportsnet ONE and Sportsnet East, to its in-flight entertainment lineup, just in time for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, allowing passengers to watch live hockey games on select flights.

Air Canada has ramped up its in-flight entertainment offerings with the addition of three new Live TV sports channels to its system. As the Stanley Cup Playoffs kick off, passengers on select flights will now have access to Sportsnet ONE and Sportsnet East starting today, with TVA Sports joining the lineup in May. This update ensures that Air Canada passengers can enjoy live coverage of their favorite hockey teams in both English and French.

John Moody, Managing Director of Onboard Product at Air Canada, expressed his enthusiasm about the new offerings: "As the only Canadian airline with Live TV, we're thrilled to provide live broadcasts of the Stanley Cup Playoffs onboard. Hockey is a pivotal part of Canadian culture, and offering these games in both official languages underscores our commitment to enhancing our passengers' experience."

The new sports channels included in Air Canada's Live TV are:

  • Sportsnet ONE and Sportsnet East: Available only on domestic flights, these channels offer extensive coverage of the NHL and Stanley Cup Playoffs, along with other major sports such as NBA, MLB, and the Grand Slam of Curling.
  • TVA Sports: This channel provides French-language coverage of major sporting events including the NHL, Stanley Cup Playoffs, WTA, UFC, and EURO 2024, available on both domestic and transborder flights.
  • TSN and RDS: These channels feature a broad range of live sports coverage, including upcoming events like UEFA EURO 2024 and CONMEBOL Copa América 2024, along with hockey, basketball, football, and more.

Additionally, Air Canada's Live TV lineup includes the CTV News Channel, LCN, and BNN Bloomberg, ensuring passengers have access to comprehensive news and financial updates in addition to sports.

Currently, Air Canada's Live TV service is available on select domestic and transborder routes operated by 100 Live TV-enabled aircraft, including Boeing 777, Boeing 787, Airbus A330, Airbus A321 (with new cabins), and Airbus A220 models.

This enhancement is part of Air Canada's ongoing efforts to provide a superior in-flight experience, complementing its extensive library of more than 1,400 hours of movies, 1,900 hours of TV shows, and over 600 hours of music and podcasts. With these additions, Air Canada continues to demonstrate its dedication to offering a rich and diverse in-flight entertainment experience.
